Sarah Alverson Kellner is a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School where she was a four-year member and captain of the Lady Hornets lacrosse team. Sarah was named a scholastic All American in addition to receiving All CNY scholastic lacrosse honors.
Following high school, Sarah continued her lacrosse career and education enrolling at Cornell University. As a member “Big Red Ladies Lacrosse Team”, she was named to the All-Ivy and All American lacrosse teams. Sarah was voted the Most Valuable Player of the ECAC Tournament in both her freshman and senior seasons. In addition, Sarah was selected as a member of the US Women’s National Lacrosse Team in her junior and senior years at Cornell.
After her college graduation, Sarah returned to her high school alma mater as the assistant lacrosse coach. The F-M Lady Hornets won the NYSPHSAA Lacrosse Championships in 2004 and 2005 and was the State Runner-up in 2006.
When Sarah took over the Regis University program in 2007, the team was coming off a 3-9 season, coupled with an overall record of 13-64 since their inaugural season in 2000. It did not take long before Sarah was able to flip the script and by 2011, the Rangers won 12 games and lost only two. Since 2013, the team has never won less than 12 games and over the last three seasons, RU has posted an overall record of 54-9. Kellner guided the 2019 team to a perfect 16-0 record in the conference, improving to 20-0 after winning the Midwest Regional Championship, marking the first time in program history that a Regis women’s lacrosse team reached the 20-win threshold. Kellner has produced the program’s only six Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Americans, with senior Sarah Myres earning the team’s first All-America First Team honor in 2019.
Sarah Kellner enters her 14th season as the Regis University head women’s lacrosse coach in 2019-20. She is a three-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Coach of the Year (2014, 2017, 2019), compiling a career win-loss record of 141-65, while capturing two regular-season conference championships, three tournament championships, and back-to-back Midwest Regional Championships in 2018 and 2019. The 2018 and 2019 teams both secured spots in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Women’s Lacrosse Semifinals.
Sarah has a career winning percentage of .684 and her 141 wins are tied for 26th among all active Division II women’s lacrosse head coaches.
