Greg Gebhardt

Lacrosse has always been more than just a sport for Greg “Gebby” Gebhardt—it’s been a family affair. Growing up in Camillus, NY, Greg and his brothers, John and Jason, spent countless hours developing their lacrosse skills together in the backyard. Despite attending Bishop Ludden High School, Greg often found himself playing with friends from West Genesee at Shove Park, where he was regularly invited to join as a guest goalie. A true multi-sport athlete, Greg excelled not only in lacrosse but also in football and hockey during his time at Ludden.

In 1987, Greg earned a prestigious selection to the Empire State Games lacrosse team, coached by Hall of Famer Pete Fiorini. His standout performances there helped him secure a scholarship to Loyola College, a testament to his dedication and talent. His college career took a different path after graduating from Bishop Ludden, Greg decided to attend Nazareth College with his wife Lynn and brother John.

Pride from Upstate New York

“I’ve always been incredibly proud to be from Upstate New York and to represent Bishop Ludden as a lacrosse player. Growing up in Camillus, people often assume I played for West Genesee, but my journey has been unique—and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Greg’s contributions to the sport reached new heights during his collegiate career at Nazareth College. A two-time All-American and captain for the Golden Flyers, he was instrumental in leading Nazareth to its first-ever NCAA team championship in any sport in 1992. That same year, Greg earned the titles of Division III Player of the Year and Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie of the Year.

Giving Back

After college, Greg felt a deep desire to give back to the sport that had shaped so much of his life. In 1992-1993, he joined fellow Bishop Ludden standout Rob Didio to assist in coaching the goalies for the Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team. His passion for supporting the sport continued as he joined the Upstate Lacrosse Foundation, working with the late Fred Jackson, his father John Gebhardt, Dave Alexander, Steve Chambers, Doug Rowe, and Otey Marshall on community events like the Pumpkin Stick-Out at Syracuse University.

In 2000, Greg found his true calling when he was asked to be the President of the Baldwinsville Youth Lacrosse Program. Under his leadership, the program grew from 110 players to 385, spanning boys and girls from kindergarten to 8th grade. With ongoing support from Coach Fiorini and Coach Rowe at Baldwinsville High School, the program produced numerous high school All-Americans, collegiate players, and contributed to the development of three state championship teams.

Lake Placid Legend

In 2017, Greg was honored to be inducted into the Legends of Lake Placid by George and Kevin Leveille for his 25+ years of commitment to attending the Lake Placid Tournament. He was recognized for his numerous MVP awards and championship wins over the years. The Lake Placid Tournament has become a summer family destination for the Gebhardts, with both of Greg’s brothers, his three children, and his three nieces and nephew participating in the event.

Personal Life

Greg resides in Baldwinsville with his wife of 30 years, Lynn, whose unwavering support has been the cornerstone of his lacrosse journey. Together, they have three children: Taylor, Ryan, and Emma, all of whom Greg had the privilege of coaching throughout their youth lacrosse careers. Taylor excelled as a 3-Time All-Big East standout at Georgetown University, while Ryan earned 4-Time All-American honors at Stevens Institute and MIT. Emma continues the family legacy as a three-year starter and All-Big East attacker at Georgetown University.
