The 2004 Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team had an extraordinary season, dominating the regular season and the NE10 tournament with a flawless 14-0 record, outscoring their opponents 229 to 67. This commanding performance secured them a home game in the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year, where they defeated New York Tech 7-5 to advance to the program’s first-ever national championship game.

In front of over 19,000 fans at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium, Le Moyne faced Limestone, who held a 10-9 lead in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Le Moyne forced a crucial turnover, setting up junior attackman Brandon Spillett for a game-tying goal with just nine seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Dolphins won the faceoff in the second overtime, and Spillett sealed the victory with his seventh goal of the game, securing the College’s first national championship.

This triumph marked the first-ever national championship by any men’s program in the history of the Northeast-10 Conference. Le Moyne finished the season 16-0, becoming just the third undefeated Division II national champion. The team boasted four All-Americans, including Midfielder of the Year Rob Trowbridge, and eight all-conference selections, featuring the Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year. Three members of this historic team have since been inducted into the Le Moyne College Gold Wave Hall of Fame.
